About
Washington's new hot varietal is Syrah. Traditionally grown in the Rhone valley of France, Syrah is known for its deep, dark, concentrated qualities. L'Ecole Nº 41 began producing small quantities of Syrah from Seven Hills Vineyard beginning in 1999.
Review
2009: "2009 L'Ecole No. 41 Seven Hills Vineyard Estate Walla Walla Valley Syrah ($37, 15.0%): Marty Clubb's defining Walla Walla label turned out a chewy, stylish snapshot of one of the valley's best sites. Big and oak touched, it's full of game meat and dark spice overlaying seamless currant and blackberry fruit. The savory tones and muscle signal its classic Washington provenance."
