About

This is the biggest property in Pic St Loup, the district anointed by both Parker and the Spectator Languedoc's best. The vineyards are 15 – 20 miles inland from the Mediterranean and almost 2000 feet above sea level. Summer days are blazingly hot, 103° fahrenheit or more. Nighttime temperatures always drop below 60°and often below 50°! From the specific Pic St. Loup region of the Languedoc, this character filled rose is just a bit more engaging and terroir driven than most. One might even call it 'big' with the kind of authority and punch that can make is a serious dinner companion. Syrah is the lead player here (50%), with the balance Grenache (40%) and Cinsault (10%). The flavors hint at raspberry and stone fruits, but there is a distinct element of garrigue (high toned Provencal herbs) and pepper notes that suggest this wine might see itself as a red. At the savory, more traditional end of the rose spectrum.

Review

2007: "Speaking of which, good luck keeping the sensible resolution not to drink up all of Lancyre's 2007 Coteaux du Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup Rose before the end of summer! For the second year in a row, we have here one of the finest pink wines in the world, offering a masterful integration of ripe red fruits, a pungent herbal-floral melange of garrigues, and saline smoked meatiness. Pear, mint, honey, and all jump out at this taster as well. A silken texture, and luscious, long finish add to the serious fun to be had. Lancyre hasn't just turned in another white wine performance you would not expect in Pic Saint-Loup, they have really outdone themselves this year!" 90 Points Wine Advocate #178
