About

Very few have a rare pioneering experience. Kiona Vineyards was blessed with that experience when they discovered the un-farmed, Southern slopes of Red Mountain and planted the first vineyards there in 1975. They recognized the potential of the unique microclimate to produce wine grapes which would combine the fruitiness of the Yakima Valley with the richness of the Columbia Basin. The exceptional wine quality produced by Kiona and by others who purchased Kiona wine grapes was immediately recognized and spurred spontaneous interest in the infant Red Mountain area. Others were quick to follow!
Kiona has been making Riesling for almost three decades. This Washington State version has smooth, light, spicy flavors with a slight sweetness and a nice tart acidity.
About the Wine - We pick Riesling form vineyards in several Washington State Appellations for this wine. The resulting blending process allows us to craft an immensely interesting and multifaceted Riesling. A crisp acidity, slight sweetness, and a touch of effervescence combine harmoniously in this refreshing wine.
The name Kiona is an Indian word that means "brown hills".
