About
Simply stated, Perigee exemplifies elegance, the essence of L'Ecole No 41's Estate Seven Hills Vineyard. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc, it shows smooth, silky red cherry and blackberry fruit, with rich floral and spicy aromas of cinnamon and mocha on a vivid, earthy mineral finish. Given the distinctive differences between Pepper Bridge Vineyard and Seven Hills Vineyard, it only seemed appropriate to name this wine Perigee. We were intrigued by the reference in the definition, of "being near the earth," as one of this wine's characteristic attributes is an earthy structure. Secondly, the vineyard is managed with environmentally sound and sustainable practices.
Review
2006: "Firm in texture, framing the spicy blackberry and licorice flavors with polished tannins, letting the smoky black olive notes add extra depth to the open-weave finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2014. (1,627 cases)"
- 90 Points Wine Spectator Insider, Aug 12, 2009.
2005: "Compared with Apogee, its sister wine from Pepper Bridge Vineyard, the Perigee from Seven Hills is always fresher, more forward, more expressive wine upon release; 2005 is no exception. The wine leads with a spiced plum scent, lined by leather and smoke. The flovors are lush and generous, a deep red compote of black cherry and tea-smokes plum, the finish long and fine. It has the succulence for roast squiab. (1,594 cases)"
