Keenan and Duckhorn pioneered Merlot as a varietal and while Keenan has been historically a little less consistent, they have the ability to hit the mark. This is a big, gutsy mountain Merlot done 20 months in new French and American oak that nicely commemorates a history that a lot of new buyers weren't aware of.
Don't let the whole "Merlot thing" get to you either, as this Merlot is beefy enough to keep most Cabernet drinkers more than entertained.
