About
The Droin family has been in Chablis since at least 1547, when the first records indicate that one Jehan Droin owned one parcel of vines in the Clos. Since then, the family has always owned property in the village and is among the oldest land owners in the area. Jean-Paul Droin took over the property in 1983 and helped to establish the property as among the best of the AOC. In 1999, his son Benoit joined the property and is now the principal winemaker at the estate.
Review
91-94 - Allen Meadow's Burghound
93 Points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
"Chalk dust and oceanic salinity and alkalinity are prominent already in the nose of Droin's 2008 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre, along with a smoky, fusil pungency sometimes said to be accentuated due to the flint-rich nature of the soils in this great site. Aromas of white currant, nettle, hedge flowers, and mint also put me in mind of Sauvignon from silex sites in Sancerre. Here is one of those 2008s of electric vibrancy, with an infectiously, lusciously juicy and invigorating alliance of citrus, herb and mineral elements. The finish is like an emotional tonic, not to mention for one's palate! Expect great things from this outstanding value over the coming decade and perhaps beyond. The corresponding 2007, incidentally, has really clarified itself since I reported on it in issue 186, and easily rates 90 points now in my book."
