These guys are on fire. Occupying the same eastern Oakville hills as Dalla Valle, Showket and Joseph Phelps "Backus" property, Vine Cliff sits atop some of the world's finest Cabernet real estate. Their '04 is a dense, brooding wine redolent of black fruits, smoky oak and chocolate with an underlying mineral edge from their ancient volcanic soils. They have lowered production to increase quality, a proposition that is clearly working. Mighty impressive.

2008: 92 Points “A gorgeous Cabernet, rich and flamboyant, the kind of wine that knocks you out at first sip. It’s soft but complex in tannins, and dry, with luxurious blackberry, cassis and chocolate flavors brightened by fine acidity. Hard to say where it’s going, but so delicious, it’s a wine to drink now. –S.H. 14.8% $75”
