About

Luciano Sandrone is one of the leading producers in Barolo. His story is well known: after years of work as a cellarman he purchased his first vineyard on the Cannubi hill. Since their first harvest in 1978, Luciano and his brother Luca have devoted tremendous efforts towards cultivating the finest fruit in their vineyards, which now cover 63 acres in the best parts of Langa and Roero, and taking extraordinary care in the cellar.
Sandrone's Barolos are made in the modern style: elegant, attractive and easy to appreciate right from their first years in bottle, but with no less power and structure than traditional Barolos. Along with the extremely low yields in the vineyard, he has a very rational approach in the cellar. He subjects his wines to a relatively short maceration period, does not use rotary fermenters, and uses only 20-25% new oak in the maturation process.
The new winery, built in 1998 at the foot of the steep Cannubi hillside in the heart of the Barolo district, is characterized by the respect for tradition and desire for innovation that also define Sandrone wines

Review

"Very rich and balanced, with lots of blackberry, milk chocolate and smoke character. Full and round, with a lovely texture. Drink now. 1,915 cases made. $35"
90 Points, Wine Spectator, Nov. 30, 2007

2004: "The 2004 Barbera d'Alba is a vibrant effort boasting plenty of sweet ripe fruit and toasted oak flavors with excellent length and a fine, fresh finish."
90 Wine Advocate, April 2007

2004: "Woodsy aromas of pencil, oak char and espresso with black currant notes. Soft, dry flavors of mixed berries, mocha and tobacco are delivered by way of citrusy acidity. Coffee-soaked finish."
