About

In 1988, Frederic Giachino took over his family's very small estate (at the time, it only consisted of 1.5 hectares!) which has now grown to 7 hectares. Although the domaine had been worked before his arrival using traditional viticultural techniques, Frederic took the big step to start the conversion toward a total organic estate. This continues today with no use of any synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.

Review

2010: "Nicknamed “mountain Muscadet” by importer Eric Solomon, the 2010 Abymes is 100% Jacquere planted on organically farmed limestone soils that are riddled with sand. Sparkles with a glassy sheen of brilliant white gold, and showcases piercing acidity with flavors that call to mind lime, oyster shells, and hard cheese rind. Perhaps slightly oxidative in style, this is a serious, mouthwatering white that will pair well with most cow’s milk cheeses, oysters and other shellfish. 11% alc. $16. Drink now-2015. 2008: 90 Points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, "The 2008 Abymes Monfarina (from the Jacquere grape) smells of clover and fresh lime. Honeydew melon, lime, and oregano give the palate a Sauvignon-like cast, and the wine's lusciously citric finish indelibly stains the palate with salt and chalk. Less overtly ripe than the 2007 rendition (reviewed in issue 178), this almost makes up for it in its persistent and fascinating mineral-like character."
