2008: Unlike the growing season in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, budbreak and bloom started on time in Southern Oregon. The cool, wet spring weather to the north didn’t slow the fruit growing in the Umpqua and Rogue Valleys. Harvest was right on schedule and over all the area had a terrific vintage. Although some areas got nipped with early frost, most of Southern Oregon was blessed with weeks of beautiful weather and great fruit. |

($12; 100% sangiovese) Deep pink. Raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by notes of cracked pepper and flowers. Round and juicy in the mouth, offering gently sweet red fruit flavors and hints of citrus pith and peppery bitterness. Ample enough to handle rich foods but also on the dry side, so it would work well by itself. - 88 points
